Archive for December, 2010

It’s nearing year-end, and thus nearing the time when people put together all their year-end lists. With the popularity of our 2009 edition of the Top Web Design Bookmarks post, I figured it’d be about time to write up the 2010 version. So here it is! Keep in mind, these are a few posts, apps, and other such bookmarkable web-design-related goodies I’ve personally found throughout my online wandering in 2010. I invite you to let me know some that I’ve missed that you feel are worthy in the comments below!

Who the Hell Are You, Anyway?

A great article on BoagWorld about the About page on websites – how it’s been forgotten, put on the backburner, and how to write an effective about us page.

Found Friday Vol 37

December 10, 2010

Hi all, and welcome to the final Found Friday of 2010 – volume 37. We’ll be taking a couple of weeks off starting the end of next week, so this is the final instalment and it includes: a free Mac OS app for recovering accidentally deleted files, ugly sweater t-shirts, a list of awesome WordPress slider plug-ins, an article on developing business skills as a freelancer, and the best web apps of 2010. Read on!

Disk Drill

Most, if not all, of us have done it: accidentally deleted a file or two, or otherwise lost something on our hard-drive. Disk Drill is a free Mac OS app that recovers these lost files! (sorry Windows users… perhaps someone can post a Windows alternative in the comments?)

Found Friday Vol 36

December 3, 2010

Welcome to December, and volume 36 of Found Fridays – 36 weeks we’ve been running this series, which showcases the best design finds of the week (in my humble opinion). This week, we have: 24 ways – an advent calendar for web geeks, 50 great examples of snowboard design, a great tutorial on icon design, an article on design briefs and some awesome “lens bracelets” for photographers. Enjoy!

24 Ways: 2010

Let’s just let the website authors explain: “24 ways is the advent calendar for web geeks. Each day throughout December we publish a daily dose of web design and development goodness to bring you all a little Christmas cheer.” Sounds like fun to me!

Lens Bracelets

If you are a photographer nerd, or if you have a photographer nerd friend, this would be a great stocking stuffer. A bracelet – a la the Livestrong style – but designed to look like part of a camera lens. Brilliant!
